Gather was built around a simple idea: create the kind of neighborhood place where people feel comfortable coming together. Somewhere to meet friends for a cocktail, settle in for dinner, celebrate an occasion, or stop by just because.
For owners Matt and Julie Barnes, food and hospitality have always been about more than what's on the plate. They're about the people around the table, the conversations that unfold, and making everyone feel welcome.
From Gourmet Guy to Gather
Before Gather, Matt and Julie welcomed guests to this same Rocky River location as Gourmet Guy Café, a business built on Matt's love of cooking and Julie's passion for hospitality.
When the opportunity came to add a full bar, they saw a chance to create something they'd been imagining for years: a neighborhood gathering place where thoughtfully prepared food, great drinks, and good company could come together.
Gather became the natural next chapter. The name changed and the experience evolved, but the people and philosophy behind it remained the same.
A Place for Everyone
Of course, Gather is more than Matt and Julie. It's the talented kitchen and service teams who bring the experience to life every day, and the neighbors, friends, and families who fill the tables.
We're proud to be part of the Rocky River community and love seeing familiar faces alongside guests visiting for the first time.

Meet Matt & Julie
Matt Barnes | Co-Owner & Chef
A 1996 graduate of The Pennsylvania Culinary Institute, Matt developed his culinary skills at Cleveland-area favorites including The Baricelli Inn, Salmon Dave's, and Blue Pointe Grille. He later became the owner and executive chef of Saucy Bistro in Westlake before launching Gourmet Guy.
His approach to food is straightforward: quality ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and dishes people genuinely enjoy. At Gather, he brings decades of experience to a menu designed for good food and good company.
Julie Barnes | Co-Owner & Hospitality
Julie discovered her love for hospitality while working in restaurants to help pay her way through college. That early experience shaped a career built around customer service, attention to detail, and taking care of people.
At Gather, Julie brings that same personal approach to creating an atmosphere where guests feel comfortable, welcomed, and appreciated. Together, she and Matt have created a place that reflects their shared love of food, hospitality, and community.
